South Carolina STEM Acceleration for Teachers:  A Two-Day PBL and Hands-On Inquiry Workshop


Wake Forest School of Medicine's Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching and Learning (CERTL), in partnership with Carolina Biological Supply Company, invites you to participate in a two-day Summer STEM Acceleration Workshop in Columbia, South Carolina designed for 6th - 8th grade teachers.  


The workshop will provide teachers with an engaging method to accelerate STEM implementation in classrooms using Problem-Based Learning cases and Inquiry-Based hands-on science materials.  Check out our flyer for more information!  To register, please fill out this Google Form:  https://goo.gl/forms/NnvlXatd6QNDM69Q2


Each participant will leave the workshop with access to a collection of Problem-Based Learning cases (approximate retail value:  $600) from CERTL and a STEM Challenge Kit (approximate retail value:  $75) from Carolina Biological Supply.

Cost:  $350 per participant for two-day workshop

    Dr. Joe Ferrara will host the first virtual facilitated planning sessions on Thursday, September 14th.  The individual sessions will be held via GoToMeeting, a real-time collaboration platform. To participate in a session, you may use the phone (call-in feature) or your computer.  Joe will share a GoToMeeting link.  Simply click it , follow the step-by-step directions, and join the conversation!




    During your risk-free, personalized session, members of the MAPSS Team will answer any questions or concerns that you may have, provide lesson planning support, or brainstorm PBL scenarios aligned to content standard.  Please sign up for a coaching time via the shared Google Doc.  Possible coaching topics include:

    Kelsey Doolittle created the event South Carolina Science Conference Presentations

    Dr. Stan Hill will be presenting at the South Carolina Science Conference at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, South Carolina.  The first presentation will take place on November 9th, 2017 at 1:15 p.m. with representatives from the Anderson 5 School District.  The presentation will focus on the impact the Wake/UTD PBL methodology has impacted their district.  The presentation is entitled "Creating an Inquiry-Based Learning Culture for Student Success".  The second presentation will take place on November 10th, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. with representatives from South Carolina EPSCoR.  This presentation will focus on how the Wake/UTD PBL approach is capable of transforming school districts in South Carolina.  The presentation is entitled "Creating an Inquiry-Based Learning Culture for Student Success with South Carolina EPSCoR".  Please join us for both of our sessions at the (SC)2 Conference!
