CERTL is pleased to announce that we will be presenting at the North Carolina Association of School Administrators'sConference on Educational Leadership in Concord, N.C. on April 19th at 11:30 a.m.  The presentation is entitled "Creating Inquiry-Based Classrooms for Student Success" and will be presented in conjunction with Chris Grace, the principal at Lakeshore Elementary School in Iredell-Statesville Schools.  Come visit us Wednesday - Friday at our booth in the Education Marketplace!

Many times we approach PBL with the purpose of addressing what has been called “soft skills.” These are skills that most would agree are those needed to be successful in the real world. However, these skills are often the toughest to master and we need to approach these as “hard skills”, which the article by Thom Markham not only addresses but also shows how PBL can be used to address the social-emotional learning aspects of learning that are so important for the well-being of our students.

Kelsey Doolittle created the event STEM Acceleration Workshop

STEM Acceleration for Teachers:  A Two-Day PBL and Hands-On Inquiry Workshop


Wake Forest School of Medicine's Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching and Learning (CERTL), in partnership with Carolina Biological Supply Company, invites you to participate in a two-day Summer STEM Acceleration Workshop designed for 6th - 8th grade teachers.  


The workshop will provide teachers with an engaging method to accelerate STEM implementation in classrooms using Problem-Based Learning cases and Inquiry-Based hands-on science materials.  Check out our flyer for more information!  


Each participant will leave the workshop with access to a collection of Problem-Based Learning cases (approximate retail value:  $600) from CERTL and a STEM Challenge Kit (approximate retail value:  $75) from Carolina Biological Supply.  


Location:  Wake Forest School of Medicine's Center of Excellence for Research, Teaching and Learning (CERTL), Winston Salem, N.C. 


Date:  June 18th - 19th, 2018


Cost:  $350 per participant for two-day workshop

    Kelsey Doolittle created the event South Carolina Science Conference Presentations

    Dr. Stan Hill will be presenting at the South Carolina Science Conference at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center in Columbia, South Carolina.  The first presentation will take place on November 9th, 2017 at 1:15 p.m. with representatives from the Anderson 5 School District.  The presentation will focus on the impact the Wake/UTD PBL methodology has impacted their district.  The presentation is entitled "Creating an Inquiry-Based Learning Culture for Student Success".  The second presentation will take place on November 10th, 2017 at 8:00 a.m. with representatives from South Carolina EPSCoR.  This presentation will focus on how the Wake/UTD PBL approach is capable of transforming school districts in South Carolina.  The presentation is entitled "Creating an Inquiry-Based Learning Culture for Student Success with South Carolina EPSCoR".  Please join us for both of our sessions at the (SC)2 Conference!
